Subject: Successful Completion of the Project “Cash Assistance for Protection and Shelter Support to Earthquake-Affected Families in Kunar Province”
Summary:
In the month of Sunbula 1404 (September 2025), a severe earthquake struck Kunar Province, destroying thousands of homes and leaving thousands of families in mourning.
The 6.7 magnitude earthquake caused devastating human losses. In many families, parents lost their children, and thousands of children were left orphaned and without guardians.
Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO), in cooperation with and with financial support from Rebuild Aid, based in Denmark, and funded by the Danish Emergency Relief Fund (DERF), implemented a project entitled “Cash Assistance for Protection and Shelter Support to Earthquake-Affected Families” in Kunar Province to reduce the vulnerability of earthquake-affected households.
The objective of the project was to provide immediate assistance to vulnerable families and support them in rebuilding their lives. According to the project plan, cash assistance was distributed to 200 families in the districts of Chawkay, Khas Kunar, and Nurgal.
Main Report:
Following the successful completion of the project, a reporting and evaluation meeting was held at the SUAO headquarters in Herat. The meeting was attended by members of the organization’s executive board, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Rebuild Aid, and the Monitoring and Evaluation team of Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Abdullah Samim, President of Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization, welcomed the participants and presented a detailed report on the project implementation. He stated:
“The Cash Assistance for Protection and Shelter project was the organization’s second official experience in implementing humanitarian projects. It was implemented in full coordination with the Ministry of Economy, the Department of Economy of Kunar Province, the Central Earthquake Commission, and the district authorities of Chawkay, Khas Kunar, and Nurgal. Despite limitations and challenges, our implementation team was able to complete the project transparently and effectively according to the work plan. Our primary goal was to reduce vulnerability and human suffering among families affected by the earthquake.”
Mr. Samim further added that under the current conditions in the country, where people are struggling with poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and natural disasters, assisting such families is a human and moral responsibility. With this understanding, Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization provided cash assistance to 200 families. He expressed his appreciation for the cooperation and trust of Rebuild Aid and DERF, whose funding in the amount of USD 59,612 made the successful implementation of the project possible.
Subsequently, Mr. Mohammad Nader Alam, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Rebuild Aid, thanked the leadership and project team and stated:
“The implementation of the cash assistance project for protection and shelter of earthquake-affected families in Kunar Province—at a time when they are facing significant challenges including winter cold, lack of shelter, poverty, and unemployment—is a major achievement. The lessons learned from this project will help Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization improve its operational processes in the future and take stronger steps in serving the community. Rebuild Aid will continue its cooperation with Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization in delivering services to vulnerable populations in Afghanistan.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Nazar Mohammad Huzainyar, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization, expressed appreciation for the activities and successful implementation of the project and stated:
“The successful implementation of the cash assistance project in three districts of Kunar Province represents an excellent experience for Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization. The lessons learned from this project—commitment, integrity, transparency, and adherence to administrative principles and regulations—enable the organization to achieve greater success in the future in humanitarian services and support for vulnerable communities.”

Leadership and monitoring officers of SUAO during the final evaluation and reporting meeting of the cash assistance project for 200 earthquake-affected families in Kunar Province, held at the Herat headquarters.
