Cash Assistance Distributed to 200 Earthquake-Affected Families in Kunar Province | Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO)

 

In response to the recent earthquake in Kunar Province and as part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to support affected communities, Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO), in cooperation with its implementing partner Rebuild Aid Forening, distributed cash assistance to 200 vulnerable families in the province.

This humanitarian intervention was carried out under the project “Cash Assistance for Protection and Sheltering of Earthquake-Affected Families in Kunar Province”, with financial support from the Danish Emergency Relief Fund (DERF).

The primary objective of this initiative was to reduce immediate economic pressures, help families meet urgent basic needs, and provide relief to households that lost shelter, livelihoods, and economic stability as a result of the earthquake. Cash assistance enables affected families to prioritize their most pressing needs and restore a degree of dignity and self-reliance during a period of crisis.

Prior to the distribution, a comprehensive field assessment and beneficiary identification process was conducted to ensure that assistance reached the most vulnerable households. Priority was given to female-headed households, orphaned or unaccompanied children, persons with disabilities, individuals with chronic illnesses, and other families facing severe socio-economic hardship. This assessment process was designed to ensure fairness, transparency, accountability, and needs-based targeting throughout the intervention.

The cash distribution took place on 8 January 2026 in a secure, well-organized, and transparent environment, with the presence of representatives from the Kunar Provincial Department of Economy, the Khas Kunar district authorities, community representatives, and local media. During the event, each of the 200 selected families received 11,680 AFN in cash assistance.

Beyond immediate financial relief, this support represents a gesture of solidarity with earthquake-affected families who continue to cope with significant loss and hardship. The assistance is expected to contribute to stabilizing household conditions, reducing vulnerability, and enabling families to address urgent needs such as food, temporary shelter, healthcare, and other essential expenses.

SUAO emphasizes that support for disaster-affected populations must be sustained, targeted, and coordinated. The organization remains committed to working closely with national and international partners to deliver principled humanitarian assistance and to support early recovery and resilience among crisis-affected communities. Through continued collaboration and community engagement, SUAO aims to stand alongside affected families as they rebuild their lives and restore stability following this devastating natural disaster.
