Field Report – Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO)
Subject: Situation of Afghan Migrants Deported from Iran at the Milak Border – Nimroz Province
Prepared by: Sebghatullah Alam, Field Officer at SUAO
Date: 5 July 2025 (15 Saratan 1404 in the Afghan calendar)

In the midst of a scorching and suffocating summer, thousands of our fellow citizens, helpless and exhausted, were forcibly and mercilessly returned from the other side of the border to Afghanistan. The unprecedented heat in Nimroz province is so intense that it takes the breath away from every living being. In the dusty and volatile atmosphere of the Milak border, the cries of hungry and thirsty children blend with the wails of mothers who have been forced to leave their children behind, across the border, with no trace. Fathers, bewildered and desperate to find shade for their families, wander aimlessly—uncertain about the fate of the homes and lives they had left behind years ago, buried under the rubble of war and displacement in Afghanistan.

This report is the result of a screening and field assessment conducted by the Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO) on the situation of Afghan migrants recently deported from Iran through the Milak border crossing.

These migrants endured years of hardship, discrimination, and pressure in foreign lands, and today they return empty-handed, bearing deep physical and emotional wounds, to a homeland that is still unprepared to receive and support them. The limited assistance available on-site is inadequate to cover their basic daily needs, and the anxiety about the future weighs heavily on the hearts of migrant fathers and mothers, posing a serious threat to their mental well-being.

Despite this, the noble, hospitable, and committed people of Nimroz province have rushed to welcome these suffering caravans with open hearts and helping hands. Though these efforts may be small in the face of such immense pain, they have served as a balm on the old and deep wounds of the returnees.

In this critical moment, Islam, humanity, and our collective conscience call upon us to stand beside our suffering compatriots. Now is the time for everyone—from ordinary citizens to local, national, and international humanitarian organizations—to act with full force and listen to the voices of these hundreds of distressed families.

We are one nation. If one limb is wounded, the entire body feels the pain:
“If one member is afflicted with pain, the other members will be restless as well.”

Silence in the face of migrants’ suffering is not acceptable; helping them is our moral and Islamic duty.
