Among the historical symbols and proud moments of the mountainous land of Ghor, the name and memory of the ancient Saifrood Fortress and its astonishing events must not be forgotten.
Nestled atop the prideful peaks of Ghor’s rugged terrain—north of Taywara and south of Shahrak district—once stood a legendary citadel known as the Saifrood Fortress. Built by the command of Sultan Bahauddin Muhammad Sam, this fortress was among the strongest strongholds in the region’s mountainous history.
During the Mongol invasion, thousands of local civilians and soldiers, led by Malik Qutbuddin, sought refuge within its walls. Besieged for fifty days with water and food in severe shortage, the defenders of Saifrood prepared for collective martyrdom. But at a decisive moment, rainfall and snow—seen as divine mercy—breathed new life into the besieged, saving the fortress from collapse.
Though no physical traces of this great fortress remain today, names such as “Hisar,” “Pai-Hasar,” and “Hasarak” still echo throughout various areas of Ghor, bearing witness to the courage and historical pride of its people.
The legacy of this fortress is not only part of ancient history—it is etched into the living memory of Ghor’s troubled yet resilient landscape. Today, its story continues to inspire new generations with messages of resistance, dignity, and unity.
At Saifrood Unity and Aid Organization (SUAO), we carry forward that very spirit…
Inspired by the proud history and spirit of resilience rooted in Ghor, SUAO has built its mission on the pillars of social solidarity, empowerment, and sustainable humanitarian service.
